RUNNING THE CENTRAL MASSIF
Duration: 4 - 6hrs
Distance: 27 km
Ascent: 1500 m
Running gear: Comfortable running clothes and shoes
ABOUT THE TOUR
This running adventure sets off from Boca da Corrida, a privileged viewpoint over Nun’s Valley, Madeira highest peaks and even Funchal bay.
We start our run towards Encumeada getting deep inside the central mountainous massif through a technical man made rock path.
After some good 4 Km’s in, the warm up is done and we arrive at Relvinhas where we detour towards Pico Grande. A challenging steep climb on rocky trail lead us to one of the most remote peaks in the island. Once again, the scenarios will make it worth.
What goes up, must come down and a downhill section awaits us back to Relvinhas, as we then follow the main trail.
We start a comfortable but always technical 8 Kms run deep inside the massif with views over Encumeada and Paul da Serra.
The green water pipeline that crosses the forest indicates the turnaround point at Encumeada.
After resting for a while, we head back just to realize that although it’s the same trail, the scenario and views are different but as beautiful and amazing.
